Music, Community and Connection

For over a quarter-century, Neil Morton has been a driving force in the musical life of North East England. A dedicated educator, conductor, and multi-instrumentalist, Neil’s career is built on a single, powerful belief: Music is for everyone. Whether leading an orchestra or guiding a student through their first piano lesson, his mission is to make music accessible, pleasurable, and life-enhancing for all.

A Legacy of Leadership

Neil’s work as a "one-man band" for the community spans a vast range of prestigious roles. Currently, he serves as the Musical Director for several of the region’s most respected ensembles, including:

As an MD, Neil blends professional rigor with a supportive, friendly atmosphere. He doesn’t just conduct; he builds communities through song and sound, ensuring that every performer—from the seasoned specialist to the enthusiastic amateur—finds their voice.

The Foundations:
Piano and the Yamaha Method

The piano has always been the engine room of Neil’s career. A highly experienced teacher, he currently works within the local school system and at two Yamaha Music School sites.

Utilising the world-renowned Yamaha methodology, Neil helps students develop a natural, instinctive relationship with the instrument.

A New Vision:
"That’s the Theory"

After 25 years in the classroom, Neil recognized that traditional music theory can often feel like a barrier rather than a bridge. This led to the launch of That’s the Theory—a supportive, approachable business designed to demystify the mechanics of music.

Through this new venture, Neil offers a fresh perspective on theory and bespoke musical arrangements, ensuring that musicians of all levels can understand and perform music that is both professional and rewarding.
